The Patolas from Rajkot are single-Ikats, in which the yarns have been vertically resist-dyed. Ikat is a weaving technique that combines geometric precision and the aesthetic fluidity of art to produce the most wondrous fabrics and sarees. Ikats from India have been prized around the world for centuries. Rajkot-based Chir Silk by Shri Darshak bhai Kharod, has been producing truly amazing Ikats for almost two decades. There isn’t a technique in the modern textile world that is as ancient and relevant at the same time as Ikat. Fashion trends may come and go, but ikat fabrics have always stood the test of time.
