Peacocks at Our Beautiful Store

In this section, we’d like to share some of the things we love and cherish about our beautiful store – a place we regard as the home of Sarangi – a place where beauty quietly and serenely envelops you.

Peacocks at Sarangi

One of the most enduring metaphors of beauty in our country is the Peacock. Across the country, the Mor or the Mayil has captivated gods and mankind alike. Be it the ’Vahana’ of Lord Muruga or the muse for many poets and bards, or the playful feather dancing on Lord Krishna’s head-dress, the peacock has a magical appeal. Some cultures even believe that, to see a peacock in your dream represents spring, birth, growth, longevity and love. It is considered a good omen, signalling prestige, success and contentment in ones relationship or career.

At Sarangi, peacocks abound. Whether it is our Miniature peacocks that preen on the steps, the gorgeous painting that dominates the landing or the majestic one welcoming you, as you step out into the garden – our peacocks here at Sarangi announce proudly that you are at a place that appreciates and cherishes beauty.

The peacock is a wonderful symbol of femininity and it is keeping this in mind that the looms of the skilled weavers have oft been directed to emulate the beautiful bird in many ways. The form of the beautiful peacock, the elegant long neck, the gorgeous peacock feathers and even the eye of the peacock have been used to describe feminine grace and beauty. Saris that carry the peacock symbolism vary from the ‘mayil kazhuthu‘ – a colour that no colour code describes better, to the ‘mayil peeli‘ (feather) motif on borders and palavs and even the ‘mayil kannu‘ in the border.

Recently at a Chamber concert supported by Sarangi and held on our premises, the singer sang: “Maane Mayile..” – an old lyrical and romantic favourite, much to the delight of the audience. The deer and the peacock were considered the confidantes and ‘sakhis‘ of the lovelorn damsels in our lore.

Another popular belief, one that we, at Sarangi, would like to believe in more than anything else, is that the Peacock can improve your self-esteem and confidence in your own beauty. If you are feeling low, imagine the glorious, techno-colour display that the feathers of the peacock provides. This puts one in a proper mood to embrace your own beauty. In no time, you’ll be walking tall and proud as a Peacock too!

Needless to say, we love our peacocks here at Sarangi and wanted to share the joy of their beauty with you.
